The temporary resident visa (TRV) is an official document that allows foreign nationals to travel enter and live in Canada for a short duration of time. They can stay temporarily in Canada for school, tourism, business, conference, or to meet family and friends.
Visitor Visas can be categorized into mainly 2 types: Single entry visas and multiple entry visas. As the name suggests, the single-entry visa allows the holder to enter Canada only one time. On the other hand, the multiple entry visa lets the foreign national enter and exit Canada multiple times until the expiry of the visa and is issued automatically in most cases.
A holder of the Visitor visa can live in Canada for a maximum span of 6 months each visit irrespective of holding a single entry visa or multiple entry visas. In case, if the applicant is willing to extend his/ her stay, they need to apply for an extension at least 30 days before the expiry of their legal status as a visitor in Canada.
Super Visa
The Super Visa allows the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents to visit up to 2 years at a time. It’s a multi-entry visa valid period of up to 10 years. This visa is ideal for parents/ grandparents who wish to stay in Canada with their children/grandchildren for a long time.
To be eligible for a super visa, you must:
- be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
- have a signed letter from your child or grandchild who invites you to Canada that includes:
- a promise of financial support for the length of your visit
- the list and number of people in the household of this person
- a copy of this person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document
- have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is:
- valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry at least $100,000 coverage have proof that the medical insurance has been paid
- at least $100,000 coverage
- have proof that the medical insurance has been paid
The applicant is required to leave the country before expiry their legal status- 2 years as a visitor in Canada. In case, if the applicant is willing to extend his/ her stay, they need to apply for an extension at least 30 days before the expiry of their legal status as a visitor in Canada.
